Managing Your Money in Uncertain Times: A Look to the Past to Prepare for the Future
We live in the present, learn from the past and plan for the future. That's exactly what this financial planning session attempts to do. We certainly recognize the current stock markets and economy are uncertain. So how do we plan a strategy for the investment options available to us? What can we learn from the past?
This presentation by Janet Briaud, president of Briaud Financial Planning, gives valuable insights and knowledge about investment cycles, the psychology of the markets, inflation and deflation, the impact of terrorist attacks and the importance of having a plan.
NOTE: This presentation was taped at the 2003 TAMU Financial Planning Mini Fair, February 12, 2003

Investment Options through Payroll Options and Beyond - Nancy Granovsky
Did you know that you could tax defer up to $12,000 in 2003 through a tax deferred account? You could defer even more if you are over age 50. You could defer even more if you have completed 15 years of service with the A&M System. Okay, not all of us can handle those deductions from a paycheck, but the point is that greater deferred savings opportunities are available through payroll deductions for higher education employees. The Tax Deferred Account is just one option through a payroll deduction. There is also the Texa$aver 457 Plan. This Investment Options class will also present overviews of options outside of payroll deductions; such as, the difference between traditional IRA’s and Roth IRA’s and funds specifically for college savings.
Get a well-rounded view of your options from Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist, Nancy Granovsky. She is a Certified Financial Planner® certificant and is certified in Family and Consumer Sciences.
